10 Day South Africa Itinerary

Day 1-3: Explore Cape Town

Your adventure begins in the vibrant city of Cape Town, which is often referred to as one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Cape Town will sweep you off your feet with its dramatic Table Mountain backdrop, its lively streets, and, of course, its world-class food and wine.

Day 1: Arrive in Cape Town & Sunset at Table Mountain Once you’ve settled into your hotel, start your journey by heading to Table Mountain. Take the cable car up or, if you’re feeling energetic, hike to the top. The panoramic views over the city and the Atlantic Ocean are absolutely stunning. Afterward, relax and enjoy a casual dinner at one of the city’s trendy spots along Bree Street.

Day 2: Cape Peninsula & Boulders Beach Today, it’s time to explore the Cape Peninsula. Rent a car or book a guided tour and make your way to Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Don’t miss out on stopping at Boulders Beach, where you’ll get the chance to see the famous African penguins! End the day at Camps Bay Beach to enjoy a cocktail with a view.

Day 3: Robben Island & V&A Waterfront No visit to Cape Town is complete without a visit to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. After a sobering but important history lesson, spend the rest of your afternoon at the V&A Waterfront, where you can indulge in some shopping, dining, and sightseeing.

Day 4-6: Safari at Kruger National Park

After soaking in the magic of Cape Town, it’s time to head to one of Africa’s premier safari destinations: Kruger National Park.

Day 4: Arrival at Kruger National Park & Sunset Safari Catch a flight to either Nelspruit or Hoedspruit and make your way to Kruger National Park. Check into your accommodation (I highly recommend staying at the luxurious Kruger Gate Hotel), settle in, and prepare for your first taste of the wild on an evening game drive. There’s nothing quite like seeing elephants and lions against the backdrop of a setting African sun.

Day 5: Full-Day Safari & Bush Walk Start your day early with a morning game drive—you’ll have a better chance of spotting predators like lions and leopards when they’re more active. In the afternoon, consider a bush walk with a knowledgeable guide to learn more about the park’s smaller inhabitants and plant life.

Day 6: Final Game Drive & Departure For your final morning in Kruger, rise with the sun for another game drive. After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to the wildlife and make your way back to Johannesburg, where you can catch a flight to your next destination.

Day 7-8: Discover the Garden Route

The Garden Route is one of South Africa’s most scenic coastal drives and a great way to experience the country’s natural beauty.

Day 7: Road Trip to Knysna Pick up a rental car and hit the road for the Garden Route! Your first stop is the charming town of Knysna, famous for its lush forests and beautiful Knysna lagoon. Take a boat ride or explore the Knysna Heads before enjoying a seafood dinner overlooking the water.

Day 8: Adventure in Tsitsikamma National Park Today, head to Tsitsikamma National Park, which is known for its rugged coastline, lush forests, and thrilling adventure activities. Whether you want to hike, zip-line, or kayak, Tsitsikamma has something for every adventurer.

Day 9-10: Cape Winelands

To wind down your trip, spend your final days in the Cape Winelands, South Africa’s premier wine region.

Day 9: Wine Tasting in Stellenbosch Take a scenic drive to Stellenbosch, where you’ll be surrounded by vineyards and picturesque landscapes. Spend the day hopping between some of the region’s best wineries, sampling world-class wines, and enjoying farm-to-table dining.

Day 10: Farewell South Africa On your final day, relax at your hotel or fit in one last wine tasting before heading back to Cape Town for your flight home. You’ll leave with unforgettable memories of South Africa’s diverse beauty.
