Uruguay is one of South America’s most underrated gems. Nestled between Argentina and Brazil, it offers laid-back charm, colonial beauty, and coastal escapes. When I first visited, I was surprised at how safe, welcoming, and easy to navigate it was as a solo female traveler.

In my Uruguay travel guide blog series, I’ll share what it’s like to explore Montevideo’s waterfront promenade, the cobblestone streets of Colonia del Sacramento (a UNESCO gem), and the glitzy beaches of Punta del Este. I’ll also share where to eat, how to get around, and why Uruguay makes a perfect addition to a Buenos Aires trip (hint: the ferry to Colonia is quick and easy).

If you’re curious about a quieter, friendlier, and more authentic side of South America, Uruguay should be on your list. Start here and dive deeper into each of my detailed guides.
