If this is your first time to Copenhagen or you just love those classis waterfront views that Nyhavn offers, then Indre By is a great option. This is where you will find all of the iconic must-see’s that Copenhagen has to offer, and it’s extremely walkable and has public transit accessability.

It’s a frequent pick for solo and first-time visitors who want to explore the city on foot.
71 Nyhavn Hotel: Set just off the iconic canal of Nyhavn, 71 Nyhavn Hotel is a guest favorite for its picture-perfect location, classic interiors, and easy access to Copenhagen’s top attractions. Its popularity comes from the combination of scenic waterfront views and being steps away from historic streets, museums, and restaurants.
Radisson Collection Royal Hotel, Copenhagen: A long-standing favorite for both business and leisure travelers, the Radisson Collection Royal Hotel combines a central Indre By location with modern comfort and Danish design elements. It regularly appears on “best of” lists and among frequently booked choices due to its iconic architecture and proximity to major landmarks.
2. Vesterbro
If you are looking for a fun and vibrant neighborhood full of local cafes, chic resturants, and just a fun vibe, then Vesterbro may be the neighborhod for you. This famouse Meatpacking Dsitrcit is the perfect place if you are looking for excellent restrautsn and a vibrant and exciting nightlife. Hotels in this neighborhood rtange from budget-friendtly hostels for solo travelers, to upscale boutqieu style hotels, and everythign in between.
Not only is this neighborhood walkable, but you are also close to the Central Station, and the best part, for me, was all of the delicious bakeries that are nearby, and waking up every morning to the smell of fresh baked bread throughout the neighborhood.
This fun neighborhood has lots of energy, personality, and is a great location for solo travelers, or younger travelers who enjoy a great night out, and love a vibrant and energetic neighborhood.

Tivoli Hotel: This was one of my favorites in the area due to being so close to the Copenhagen Central Station and the convenient access to the city’s major attractions. Its modern rooms and thoughtful amenities make this hotel a solid pick for any travelers who want comfort and connectivity while exploring Copenhagen’s vibrant neighborhoods.
Hotel Ottila: Located in the creative heart of Vesterbro, Hotel Ottilia blends stylish design with local character, which appeals to travelers looking for a stay with personality. With strong guest satisfaction and frequent bookings, this hotel is a favorite for both leisure and solo travelers who appreciate thoughtful design, walkable access to cafes and nightlife, and easy transit connections.
Axel Guldsmeden Hotels: Axel Guldsmeden is another top-booked hotel in Vesterbro, known for its eco-friendly ethos, comfortable rooms, and relaxed, welcoming vibe. Its location near the Central Station and Vesterbro’s trendiest spots makes it ideal for travelers who want to experience local culture and dining without sacrificing convenience.
3. Nørrebro
For me, I feel like the Norrebro neighborhood is more of that authentic and genuine Copenhagen experience that a lot of travelers seek out. This neighborhood has a creative and cultural vibe to it, with lots of fun cafes, vintage sops, and lively streets filled with more locals and a lot less tourists.
Because this area is more local and less touristy, accommodations tend to be more affordable, and you have that lovely neighborhood feel that I know I love experiencing when I am traveling. Now, because you aren’t right in the center of town, it’s less walkable to major attractions, but public transit is at your footsteps and very easy and safe to navigate.
This area is a great place to retreat and enjoy your evening after a long busy day of exploring. It really feels like you are going home, and not in a touristy hotel, which I honestly love!
Hotels in Norrebro Copenhagen
a&o Copenhagen Nørrebro: This is a perfect hostel for those budget-minded travelers, backpackers, and solo adventurers. It’s a hybrid of hostel and budget hotel with private and shared rooms, making it a flexible option for cost-conscious stays right in the heart of this multicultural, vibrant district.
Hotel M18 Copenhagen: This clean and comfortable hotel is centrally located near shops, local cafés, and Nørrebro’s lively street. This is a perfect hotel for those who want a simple and comfortable stay, with access to great transportation.
Sleep in Heaven: Sleep in Heaven is more of a guesthouse/hostel-style option that regularly attracts travelers for its friendly, neighborhood vibe and affordability close to Nørrebro’s shops and nightlife. What I love most about the budget-friendly stay is that it has a neighborhood feel and is a mix of private and shared rooms.
4. Østerbro
Sometimes my travel style calls for a more calm and leisurely sort of trip. If that is your style too, and you want to stay in an area with lots of green spaces where you can grab a coffee at a local shop and just walk around, then Osterbro may be a great location.
What I love about this area is that it feels super relaxed, more residential, it cozy and quieter compared to some of the other areas, and you have super quick and easy access to the main city center either by the metro or bus.
This area also has great biking along the water, and staying here will make you feel less like a tourist, and more like you live here, which is something I love!
Østerbro Hotels
Charlottehaven: Charlottehaven is one of my favorite spots in Østerbro because it embodies the elegant, residential feel of the neighborhood when you want a calm retreat after exploring the city. Its beautifully designed rooms and warm staff make it feel like a home base rather than just a hotel and being close to green spaces like Fælledparken makes morning walks a joy. I found it especially refreshing to escape the bustle of central Copenhagen, grab a coffee at a local café, and stroll leafy streets right outside the door.
Residence Inn by Marriott Copenhagen Nordhavn: This Marriott property blends the comfort of an apartment with hotel ease, perfect for longer stays or travelers who like a bit more space and flexibility. I stayed here and loved how easy it was to cycle to neighborhoods like Østerbro, as well as hop on public transit to the city center. With excellent kitchen facilities and plenty of room to unwind, it made solo travel feel extra comfortable and practical.
Fairfield by Marriott Copenhagen Nordhavn: Fairfield’s friendly staff and relaxed vibe are ideal when you want a comfortable, uncomplicated stay without sacrificing quality. I appreciated how welcoming the hotel felt after a long day of sightseeing, and the location near Nordhavn gives access to waterfront walks and bike paths that showcase another side of Copenhagen beyond the typical tourist hubs.
5. Christianshavn
Nestled along canals and small bridges, Christianshavn feels like a quieter, scenic escape just minutes from the city’s heart. This neighborhood has a more cozy, local energy and is great if you want picturesque walks, waterside cafes, and a slightly slower pace. This is a perfect neighborhood for relaxing after museum-filled days.
It’s also a short walk or quick boat ride from Indre By, so you get the best of peaceful surroundings and easy access to attractions.
Christianshavn Hotels
CPH Living (Riverboat Hotel): There’s nothing quite like waking up on the water, and CPH Living, a converted barge right in Christianshavn , which delivers that unique, scenic stay. The minimalist Danish design and floor-to-ceiling windows made my solo stay feel special and connected to the canals. It’s one of those hotels that instantly makes you feel part of the local rhythm, with little cafés and canalside walks just outside your cabin door.
Manon Les Suites by Guldsmeden Hotels: Just a short stroll from Christianshavn’s charming canals, Manon Les Suites feels like a tropical oasis in the city, with its lush interior garden, rooftop pool, and eco-conscious design. I chose this one when I wanted a bit of indulgence without going too formal and it strikes a beautiful balance between playful luxury and neighborhood ease, and it makes wandering Copenhagen feel like a longer, slower adventure.
D’Angleterre (Near Christianshavn): While technically closer to the edge of the neighborhood, Hotel D’Angleterre’s timeless elegance makes it one of the most booked luxury choices near Christianshavn. If you want classic Copenhagen refinement, think Michelin-level dining, plush rooms, and impeccable service, this is where you feel the city’s heritage in every detail. It’s a stay I often recommend for special occasions or when you want to merge local neighborhood charm with old-world sophistication.

Just like with any place you a traveling to, deciding where to stay can either enhance your trip, or break it. For me, I look for areas that are safe, walkable, and close to things I want to see and do, and also near public train stations for easy access to do day trips.
